In 2019, the members of Destroying the Gap, a group of childhood friends, gathered to discuss ideas about giving back to our respective communities. June 2020, we solicited the IRS and Texas Secretary of State for approval to form our 501 (c)3 organization.
We wanted to provide training and support to parents/guardians and students in order to increase academic achievement and destroy the achievement gap.
The National Education Association says the Achievement Gap is often defined as the differences between the test scores of minorities and/or low income students and the test scores of their White and Asian Peers. However, it is really "differences between the scores of students with different backgrounds (ethnic, racial, gender, disability, and income) are evident on large-scale standardized tests."
Michael coined the the name Destroying the Gap and we created this website to ensure families in need would have access to the resources necessary to ensure their child has an equal and equitable opportunity for success.
